Tanzanian Ambassador to Visit Vermont

His Excellency Ombeni Sefue, Tanzania’s Ambassador to the United States will visit Vermont from May 28th through May 30th.  Ambassador and Mrs. Sefue, along with Dr. and Mrs. Williams will be participating in a fundraising effort for the Tanzania-based public health organization AHEAD, Inc.

AHEAD, Inc., is an acronym for Adventures in Health, Education, and Agricultural Development, Incorporated.  The non-profit organization based in Rockville, Maryland was founded in 1981 to provide hands-on, people-to-people assistance to undeserved rural communities to combat malnutrition, disease, poverty, technological deprivation and other conditions that have an adverse impact on the health and welfare of people.

In 1974, Dr. & Mrs. Williams took their four small children to live in Tanzania. After working in Africa as a pediatrician for two-and-a-half years and witnessing the deprivation and suffering of children dying from preventable diseases, the Williams' family was prompted to dedicate their lives to this cause. Several times a year, they travel to Africa along with a dedicated group of volunteers to work on health and development projects in rural communities.

On Friday, May 29th, Ambassador Sefue and Dr. Williams will tour Windsor including the Cornish Colony Museum, and the American Precision Museum.

On Saturday, May 30th at 10 am, the Ambassador and Dr. Williams will tour the Seldon Technologies plant in Windsor. Members of the media are invited to attend parts of this tour however, certain areas will be off limits to the media.  Seldon Technologies is a Vermont-based company that works on water purification technology.

On Saturday evening, the Ambassador will also attend a fundraising cocktail party being held at the Juniper Hill Inn in Windsor to raise money for AHEAD, Inc. and ongoing efforts in Tanzania.  This event will be held from 5:30 – 8:30 pm. Members of the media are invited to attend however, you must call the Juniper Hill Inn in advance to receive credentials. Seldon Technologies will also be donating three portable water purification units for use in Tanzania by AHEAD, Inc. at this cocktail party fundraiser.

For more information about the Ambassador’s visit, or to arrange for an interview, please contact Robert Dean or Dana Metes at the Juniper Hill Inn at (802) 674-5273.
